Recently, I have begun to feel a deep connection to our whale companions of the world's oceans. I had several dreams about the ocean, in which a couple of huge, beautiful blue whales came to me when I was in dark, murky waters and they filled me with a feeling of warmth, safety, and acceptance of my surroundings. I remember their distinct warmth and a sensation of light more than anything else. As light beings, our human bodies physically rely on our relationship with the sun, and in Vaisnava Vedic culture, it is stated that Surya, the Sun God, was Vishnu's first student. If all humans are descended from this original sun being in a disciplic succession, then we are also spiritually connected to the sun and light. I believe this makes us kindred spirits with whales and there are many lessons to be learned from them. In Maori culture, whales are regarded as sacred guides who steer you to safety and gently encourage you to feel the love and be love. The folks at "Otter On A Rock Animal Medicine Blog" explain more details of the nature of the Spirit which occupies the Whale body:
"The whale is the world’s largest mammal and teaches lessons in vibration and sound, hearing what is really being said, hearing the faint soft voices, the low-frequency messages and remote bonds that are real and strong, though far away."

"In Native teachings, whales are metaphorically described as swimming libraries. It is believed that within the vast intellect of whale is held the Akashic records, containing all knowledge and experience in the history of all life. Whales are honored as the Record Keepers of the cosmos. Their strange song rings a knowing of astral realms and elemental depths beyond our comprehension. They are an audible reflection of the cosmos, dreaming and awake at once."
